Our client is based in Derby with a Head Office in London, they are undergoing a period of transformational change in response to the changing landscape in rail and are taking an active lead in the industry in terms of innovation.

The ability to maximise the advantages of digital services will be a game changer in terms of reliability and performance.

The Principal Data Scientist sits within the Digital Services function and is a role with an ambitious and exciting remit. The overall objective of the role is to provide support in maintaining the value of company assets and to ensure customers are fully satisfied with the product they lease.
Working under the direction of the Head of Digital Services this role will support the delivery and development of the Digital Services Portfolio and will lead on data analytics/science tasks to prototype and productionise Digital Services to improve fleet performance and optimise maintenance and rectification activities. This role is pivotal in ensuring that Digital Services offers relevant, robust, high impacting Digital solutions within ambitious timeframes. It will involve technical leadership of analytics activities internally and across the digital supply chain.

Working in close collaboration with key personnel, the role will develop the processes to act on the analytics. It will also develop the evidence of how data and Digital Services can positively impact reliability and availability of the assets, ensuring that a compelling commercial business case can be built.

Our ideal candidate will be an experienced engineer, with an Engineering degree (or equivalent) combined with a strong background in data science. With a proven background in conceptual development and the ability to apply complex analytics to impact operational/engineering environments. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills are essential as the role holder will work with a wide range of external suppliers/customers along with the internal teams across the business.

It is essential that candidates have experience of working with cloud services such as Azure, web technologies and local IT infrastructure and software. An understanding of the fleet environment and an awareness of Remote Condition Monitoring products and techniques are desirable but not essential.
In addition, you will have a deep understanding of the benefits that digital services could bring to the rail industry and be passionate about the opportunities this will bring to the sector.
